What to 'do' with my Art? How to use the qualification?

Also in the past i have been an Environmental Activist, blockading in The Otways, Water catchment forests of Victoria - www.oren.org.au - and Goolengook, East gippsland - www.eastgippsland.net -Helping out with Skill shares, running workshops, cooking for crew. Making flyer's for Fund raisers, Promoting for The Forest Freedom Festival, co-organizing an Art Auction for The Greens party and Performing street Theater shows, to bring awareness to the current environmental issues that need addressing.
Activism is apart of my life and art, i would like to put more emphasis on this. With the skills i have as an Artist and a B/A-of Creative Arts Industries qualification, the aim is to get Grants/Sponsorship/ Government Funding to produce politically Active Art projects.
Ie: Graffiti Workshops..world wide
Political Installations.
Touring Indigenous community Shows-shared Cultural development
The Dreamtime Festival
Theater shows in 'prescribed' Forests as Actions/with an Audience.
Just to name a few ideas...
Most of my friends are Activists of some kind, using Art, Music, Food, Radio, Film, Writing and Performance, these practices have all moved society in some way - politically charged or not...they change situations that need to be changed.

About me...

About me...
I am a Visual Artist.... and discovered this, early in life from my constant practice of Art. It was my preferred communication before learning a vocabulary maybe that goes for all Artists’?Taking classes at Arts Schools, studying Life Drawing, Still life and repeated V.C.E Art and Studio Art for the love of it, Twice before year 12 was finished.I was 13 when I sold my first Art work in a local Gallery in Castlemaine; it was an Ink drawing of a face melting off and throughout the picture.Continued group shows with my school and co-curated the '98 Fringe festival showing of 'The Gunge Gallery'.At 16 was introduced to M.U.D, Melbourne Underground Development...where i began to apply my skills to large scale Decor'e for massive Rave Parties. This 'new' way of displaying and 'giving' Art to the masses appealed to me because the Audience wasn’t 'Exclusive' in any way, it seemed like a lot less fuss to 'Show' my Art, no 33 and a 3rd percent commissions...and I was getting payed to produce Art.After a long time (4 years give or take) making Decor'/ Art, I found i began to loose my 'style as an Artist and lost sight of my own Artistic development.I had a few Group Shows and 'Mind a Maze' exhibitions-13 day and night long Art, Performance, Music bonanzas, sold some works and continued to 're-build' my 'style again, as an Artist. Had a few private sales working on commissions, Portraiture and commercial Murals.Yet again i sought 'More' within The Arts Industry...My Ability in The Visual Arts has extended to Animation, being an Arts worker-working Council paid Arts projects, The Performing Arts and 'Behind the scenes' of Theater with: prop making, scenic design/Painting, Pyrotechnics, Costume design/making, Character design and Mask making. I have experienced the above in different Theater Companies, Production Crews, and Festivals mainly in the East and F.N.Q regions of Australia.Previous, to current study of the B/A in Creative Arts Industries course here at Victoria uni- i was also employed as an Artist/Painter for Voodoo Productions. In those 5 years we created and designed many wonderful and strange Art installations/Atmospheres for: Corporate Functions, Themed parties, The Big Day Out/Music festival, Werribee Zoo....are some of situations we have created for.Why do i study and not continue to work as an Artist? - What sort of Artist do i want to be?In this VERY brief out line of what i have been doing it shows a lot of variation in workplace skill and experience but how can all this application of Art give me recognition? I am thinking Qualification can include all these skills and give me the credit to continue on a Professional level, as an Artist and where I can learn more about the inside facts of The Creative Arts Industry.

Evaluation Report...

Out of 92.00%The Visual installation/ Changing of The Australian Flag idea rates...

RELEVANCY= 20.00%

SOCIAL IMPACT= 20.00%

LEGAL ISSUES =12.00%

PUBLIC FEEDBACK= 20.00%

OFFENSE PRINCIPLE=20.00%

Don't know if iv documented this but the idea has turned into a giant billboard size touch screen that shows the public, new variations of the Australian Flag...with instructions on the screen : 'If you would like to change The Australian Flag please vote by touching the screen on your chosen design we will be sending your votes to The Federal Government - We can change The flag!'
The Visual installation-WE CAN change the Flag- tours all Australian states and Territories collecting votes and pubic feedback/ Media - city wide...after each showing the preferences/votes from the public are counted and sent as email to The Federal Government- a particular department we haven't
researched who they are yet or what department would deal with new Australian flag design vote......Or not send them?
Mmmmm?

Questions on the Pitch...

Q: Is there a need for it ?...there is -because Changing The Australian Flag.. is in current debate within the community and on a grass roots level. There are many web sites discussing the topic..many agree The Flag should be changed with this in mind...to create an opportunity- for this issue to be addressed and confronted, may aid the 'need' for it to happen.

Q:Does it have growth potential?...Yes, does have potential for a big social change and could give a totally new perspective of Australia's national identity.

Another variation : The Green and The Gold..Aussie colours

The southern Cross...our geographic location/ star constellation..

The deep blue of the surrounding oceans...

An alternative Flag Design for Australia .....Inclusive of our Native peoples colours, good to see and perhaps good to be used in The Pitch as one of the 10 choices.

Political screen-u decide

The idea has changed...from a spontaneous street theater show..it has changed from a political graffiti piece....i had a thought that perhaps we could take the idea a little further in the way of audience interaction...and include 'The peoples vote'
making the piece not just visually entertaining...but politically active and progressive after the audience has seen it.
HOW?

1st. A billboard size touch screen...installed in a general public area within a populated Australian city
showing for 1month
displaying 10 various versions of new potential Australian Flag designs

With clear instructions on or near the screen, inviting people to vote for their favorite design simply by touching the screen when the design comes up.

2. After a month all the votes are counted and sent as data/with preferred images attached...to the Federal Government as email
consistently
for 1month.

3. Once again the screen is installed in a different city
10 various versions of a new Australian Flag...Shown for 1month
votes counted and
sent as email...consistently for 1month.

4. The screen and concept
tours all States and cities within Australia
and becomes an interactive political action in action

To BE CONTINUED.......

The idea stands for people power and gives the general public or 'common person' the choice and opportunity to change how we are represented by our national Flag.

The idea also brings forward the debate:DO We need to change the Australian flag .....

The audience member - persona

The Australian general public..... The Political aware person or Could be anyone who knows about the symbolism in The Australian Flag.....can relate to anyone who has lived in Australia and knows the History of the country or anyone who identifies with The Australian flag as the representation of their country...
eg:
An Australian Patriot...Nationalist
Paul 43 yr old- Plumber, 6th generation Australian...

Had a great grandfather that fought in Galipoli, a Grandfather that fought in ww2, a father that went to Vietnam....and currently his brother is in Iraq.

*If they see the show/ experience the project....

1.What are they thinking?
How dare they. Who is mocking our Nation...this would have to be the most offense thing I've ever seen...how can this have gone ahead...why is everyone standing round watching this !!*#@+

2.What are they saying?
" Leave our flag alone" - "Theres nothing wrong with what The Australian flag represents...your a !!*#??*!!#!!* shame to our country for doing this...this is wrong."

3.What are they doing?
Cocking a 22 rifle - madly looking for someone to blame or shoot for the making of the show..on site of the show.

4.What are they hearing?
All the audience members terror and debate...defence and agreement.
Also the police siren; who have found out about the rifle and argument that now has occurred.

5.What is the reward for this person?
To stand by his beliefs...voice his opinion and create a debate...if 'rewarding' - shoot someone who disagrees with his right winged politics.

OR

Dizzy a 23 year old woman and Animal Liberation Activist.

1. What they are thinking?
Wow about time this federal Government was questioned...In a clever spontaneous Artistic way..for the History it portrays all Australians to have...change that dated nationalistic Flag!

2.What are they saying?
"Theres got to be more of these shows, active in Public spaces discussing all manner of politics...
and give people the chance to have different view points...put new ideas before the common people."

3.What are they doing?
Having an argument with another audience member about the symbolism represented by the show...expressing an defending the far Left wing view.

4.What are they hearing?
New ideas of cultural understanding from fellow audience members...'enlightened' views and changes in people political beliefs.

5.what is the reward for this person?
Changed people - people thinking new concepts...

Reward or offense ?

After some research...as to what the current Australian flag represents...

* The Union Jack
The Cross of St George for England
The Cross of St Andrew for Scotland
The Cross of St Patrick for Ireland
To represent our early settlers....

The Blue ...surrounding ocean

The Southern Cross - our geographical location as a star constellation.
The Seven Point star of Federation
six points of the star of The Commonwealth represent the six States...
The seventh = Northern Territory and the six external territories of Australia.

HEAVY MAN!

I had a brief idea about what The Australian Flag intended to represent and never really agreed with it! But many people do, they love the Flag and for some patriotic absurd reason defend and standby its meaning. ?
The symbolism is dated.. and most offensively without any honor of The Aboriginal Ancestors who lived here and thankfully still do, before any white colony ..... !
All this makes the idea of- challenging what The Australian flag is or could be or should be a little more interesting.....If the Show was to go ahead into production how many people and politicians
would be offended not rewarded by the piece ?

Tuesday, April 20, 2010

the reward

The street graffiti show: Changing of the Australian flag - 'Reward' for the user....could be
*a new perspective
* A different political out look.
*Visual entertainment
* something to think about

Tha ParTy...just been

The last project i was apart of was the reunion party and return of EVerY PictUre TellS a Story...RaVe party local to Melbourne famous for its vibe and music...a M.U.D (Melbourne Underground Development) production..that hasn't happened for a long 10years. It kinda went off...for me,i don't really like the Doof music made these days but the lighting and laser shows were awesome! The decor i/we painted for the main room ( An enormous warehouse/shed 4 at the docklands) was created after a hectic 6 days ....some 13hrs long, painting and making decor... fluro painted characters ( robots and demons)from previous parties made from cut-out polystyrene... hanging from the main room roof and 6mt long 3mt wide boards with black 'n white line paintings of strange imaginative beings, that lined the middle of the main room walls. From what i saw the people who came had fun, the party enjoyed and loved again by many...we the crew worked hard like we always do...now somewhat spent until the next party...I'll be posting up some of the decor i/we painted and photos from the party.

spontaneous Graffiti movement piece....

The idea is a combination of Re-designing The Australian Flag and a spontaneous street theater show...together to confront the audience with a political statement about our country, the issues that need to be addressed...done in a flash to make an impression and experience unique to the audience.
3 things Bad about this idea....
politically offensive
illegal
to opinionated
3 things Good about this idea....
accessible to the everyday person not exclusive
can change society's perception/individual perception
a different unique experience for those who see it

Our group task today was to create the function of the concept: SouNd GraFFiti.
so out of the many ideas we settled on sensors in walls...that when activated let out Giant sounds, descriptive of 'Old school' graffiti, big'n chunky...sounds like bubble writing and wild styles.Maybe sample of greats like Grand Master Flash and the furious five!
The sensors, randomly placed..in Allys or closed places in a city... around corners, along walls of great length, like 'Burns' that take the eye on a massive all encompassing journey...but in Audio!?
